In “Room 237”, we hear from people who have developed far-reaching theories and believe they have decoded the hidden symbols and messages buried in the late director’s film. Carefully examining “The Shining” inside out and forwards and backwards, “Room 237” is equal parts captivating, provocative and pure pleasure. Discover why many have been trapped in the Overlook for 30 years.

Rodney Ascher directed the 2010 short film “The S from Hell” which, like “Room 237”, premiered at Sundance and travelled the world (and the internet) soon after. “Room 237” expands upon “The S From Hell’s” style and substance; audio interviews are illuminated with a kaleidoscope of imagery (much of it influenced by horror films of the last hundred years) that brings the audience deep into the inner worlds of people who have been profoundly affected by the movies or TV. Ascher is known for genre-blurring work that includes countless short films, as well as commercial projects for clients including EA Games, Capitol Records, and VH1. He lives in Los Angeles with his family

A graduate from the National Film School of Ireland, Ciarán Foy’s film The Faeries of Blackheath Woods (2006) won nine ‘best short film’ awards including; Melbourne, Cork, and Brest. His debut feature film “Citadel” won the Midnighters Audience Award when it premiered at SXSW 2012, Best Irish First Feature at Galway Film Fleadh, THE NARCISSE FOR THE BEST FEATURE, Silver Méliès for the Best European Fantastic Film, A Special Mention – Mad Movies Jury at Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival. He is presently at work on a number of new feature projects.

I tend to describe Citadel as a half psychological horror, half autobiography. The autobiographical part stems from my own battles with agoraphobia in my late teens and early twenties, which was the result of a violent and unprovoked attack I endured at the hands of a gang of youths. I began to sketch out ideas for Citadel as a way to explore my own paranoia’s and fears, as well as my ultimate recovery from it. A lifelong genre film fanatic I thought this would be great material for a psychological horror film.
I wanted to create a horror film but I also wanted it to feel ‘real’ and grounded. I envisaged a film that played out like real, believable and gritty drama but contained all the thrills and suspense of a solid work of genre filmmaking. I wanted to capture the terror of the real things I experienced and embellish them with something extra-ordinary – a combination of my nightmares and paranoid imaginations.
