Sinopsis: After a tragic accident that left him paralyzed, matador Antonio Villalte loses his wife who dies while giving birth to their daughter Carmencita. After a while Antonio marries the nurse that took care of him, Encarna and leaves Carmencita to be taken care of by her grandmother, an ex flamenco dancer. Encarta tries to kill Carmencita who manages to escape with the help of bull-fighting dwarves and becomes a famous matador under the name Blancanieves. The movie is an homage to silent film and Grimm fairytales that brings us a unique interpretation of the Snow White story. The film won 10 Goya awards, including the ones for the best film and original screenplay.
Bio: Pablo Berger was born in Bilbao, Spain in 1963. In 1988 he directed his first short film, “Cortometraje Mamá”/“Mother” with artistic director Álex de la Iglesia and Ramon Barea. He went to study for a master degree in film at New York University. After getting his Ph.D., he worked as a professor of management at the New York Film Academy. He began a parallel career as a publicist and producer of music, culminating in 2003 with his film “Torremolinos 73”. In 2012, he premiered his third film “Blancanieves/Snow White”, which was the Spanish representative for the Academy Awards in 2013, in the category of Best Foreign Language Film. The film received an award at the 9th edition of Bucharest International Film Festival.
